Frequently Asked Questions

When you visit Saint Francis Emergency Department or Saint Francis Shakopee Urgent Care, two or three bills are generated for your visit. One bill is for the emergency care or urgent care professional services provided by Suburban Emergency Associates, P.A. A second bill is from Allina Hospital for facility fees, x-rays and labs. If you had x-rays, you will receive a third bill from Consulting Radiologists.

Fortunately, a single co-payment, if due, covers the visit for both professional and facility services. We work cooperatively with the others to see that a single co-payment is properly applied. Deductibles vary with insurer. SEA will send a bill based on your outstanding balance after the insurance company has paid or made a determination of the amount due.

As we lack the leverage of large multi-hospital groups, SEA contract rates with the four local major health plans are often at least 10% less than our northern or eastern neighboring emergency departments. In additional, unlike other neighboring facilities where you may receive a full physician charge for an NP or PA visit, our professional services for NP and PA visits in the urgent care are discounted a further 15% for HealthPartners, BlueCross, all Medicare and Medicaid programs.

We offer discounts for those without insurance or payments plans. Please contact us at 763-553-9920 or fax at 763-553-9910 to discuss options.

You may also be eligible for government assistance programs. The programs often have a 90-day retroactive period for emergency care so timely application is necessary. Obtain more information and applications via the following links:
